Throughout 2022-23 I joined the Climate Majority Project as collaborative author and copywriter on a number of projects, including the organisation’s first book - leading on planning and editing the volume as well as co-writing core texts.

Written as the early story of the CMP was itself unfolding, The Climate Majority Project explores the thinking behind this urgent initiative, and introduces its theory of change. This collaborative anthology also features guest chapters from change-makers and organisers of citizen climate action in the UK.

UNDP Conscious Food Systems Alliance

CoFSA emerged from the UN’s Green Commodities Programme - and a realisation that technical solutions alone are not enough to bring about systemic change. Convened by UNDP, a growing network of food, agriculture and consciousness practitioners is now engaged in ongoing exploration of the role of human consciousness and inner capacities in transforming food systems. Throughout Spring 2022 I worked with CoFSA’s founding team to produce their manifesto and web copy, as well as editing their first groundbreaking report.

The mindfulness initiative

The world’s first policy institute dedicated to mindfulness and compassion training also clerks the UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Mindfulness.
From speechwriting to web copy, co-authoring articles and key publications -
if they said it, it’s possibly my fault.

Meeting the Climate Crisis Inside Out

Jamie Bristow

Christine Wamsler

Climate change is a physical reality, demanding political and practical solutions. But its inner dimension, overlooked entirely by mainstream approaches, is a human crisis of relationship. This report outlines the relevance of mindfulness and compassion practices in addressing the endemic disconnection from self, others and nature at the root of the climate crisis.

We explore the cognitive and emotional foundations of conscious connection and discuss the potential for mindfulness and compassion practices to be developed into powerful enablers of reconnection, fostering both greater resilience and more appropriate responses to global sustainability crises.

MINDFULNESS: DEVELOPING AGENCY IN URGENT TIMES

Jamie Bristow & Rosie Bell

Humanity’s future may depend upon strengthening our agency. Multiple interconnected crises call for skilful response at a global scale - but our capacity for intentional action in our collective best interest is underdeveloped and increasingly undermined. This discussion paper opens a dialogue on the contribution of evidence-based mindfulness training to individual and collective agency. Beyond a ‘nice to have’ wellbeing benefit in the workplace or an alternative to prescription drugs, we discuss how cultivating the innate capacity of mindfulness could be foundational in responding to the complex challenges of the 21st Century.

world animal protection

I recently had the immense privilege of defending the fluffy, wrinkly and slippery ones as in-house copywriter at World Animal Protection. During this time I led fundraising creative for the UK, delivering a programme of target-shattering direct mail and a thriving quarterly magazine - among a myriad of other creature features. It was hard to leave such a dedicated team (and I’ll really miss looking at animals on the internet for a living.)

“Rosie has completely reinvigorated our fundraising creative development process – and the results of our appeals and magazine speak for themselves. We have seen brilliant, stand-out performances from pieces of work developed under her lead.”

The charity Refugee Action is a lifeline to refugees, and those struggling to navigate the tortuous UK asylum system. After writing a number of their stewardship pieces in 2017, I took on the September 2018 edition of Your Action magazine and accompanying direct response appeal. Their work is awesome. “Our projects have gained a whole new dimension since working with Rosie. She has inspired us with brilliant and original input in naming and concept creation, and understands exactly what we need with impressive speed, getting under the skin of each new project we throw at her. Her mastery of language is quite something - from short, snappy pieces to longer, information-heavy texts, the tone of voice of each individual brand and project is consistent throughout. She has been totally reliable since day one - we can’t recommend her highly enough.”

Writing user content for these pioneers was a psychoactive experience; introducing me to principles and practices that have quietly transformed my life.
